The Value of International Collaboration:
The Realities of Moving Into New Markets

Date: Monday 4th October 2004
Time: 8.30am – 11.30am

Location: Center for Architecture, 536 LaGuardia Place New York

This RIBA-USA New York Chapter presentation and forum will examine the recently published AIA International Contracts B611/INT2002 and B621/INT2002, their applicability and use in new and existing markets on a global basis.
We will discuss practical considerations such as:
(i) different local dynamics in the formation of Design Teams;
(ii) relationships among client, local and consulting architects, engineers, interior designers, and other subcontractors or consultants;
(iii) Structuring of your presence – legal and practical requirements
(iv) local standards and specifications,
(v) translation of documents;
(vi) payment issues; and
(vii) jurisdiction of disputes.

The forum will gather participant suggestions for the improvement and adaptation of these significant documents for use in developing and existing markets. It will emphasize the requirements of practice within different cultures and under different legal systems so as to insure effective collaboration in a complex world.

We will discuss the global environment, including recent and ongoing developments in mutual recognition agreements, and the admission to the WTO of developing markets such as China. The panel will also include architects with a significant international presence to share their experiences, both good and bad.

Speakers: Cynthia G. Fischer, Esq., Allied Member of AIA, Affiliate Member of RIBA
James B. Atkins FAIA
Susanne Harness Contract Committee-AIA

Panel: Tim Clark, Presiding Chair RIBA USA

ALISON JACKSON Election Year 2004
October 21- December 4

British conceptual artist Jackson will have her premier exhibition in the U.S. with a new body of work focusing on the Bush Whitehouse. Jackson is notorious in the UK for her performances, films and still photos which utilize look-alike actors who are elaborately staged to parody the representation of politicians, royalty and celebrities in tabloid photojournalism. Her book Private published by Penguin in the UK has 70,000 copies in print, and she recently received the Infinity award from the International Center of Photography.

Join RIBA New York members at the opening of this British exhibit at the Julie Saul Gallery 535 West 22nd Street New York mail@saulgallery.com
