ST GEORGES SOCIETY RECEIVES $1 MILLION DONATION

The Development Campaign received $1 million from the Manton
Foundation. “The Manton Foundation’s gift is a milestone for
the Campaign, which has now reached over 40% of its $5 million
goal,” noted Natalie T. Pray, Campaign Chairman. Edwin Alfred
Grenville Manton was born in Essex, England on 22 January
1909. He joined St. George’s Society in 1938, served on the
Executive Committee from 1984 to 1986 and was a Vice President
from 1987 to 1989. In 2001 Sir Edwin was awarded the Society’s
Medal of Honour for his devotion to and support of the Society.
He was knighted by HM Queen Elizabeth II in November 1994
for his extraordinary generosity to the Tate Gallery.
