David Chipperfield has described his firm’s design approach as “trying to make something that’s abstract and contemporary on the one hand but completely inspired by its own task and function.” Now working worldwide, the firm has offices in London, Berlin, Milan, and Shanghai. The firm’s recently completed Museum of Modern Literature in Marbach, Germany was just awarded the 2007 Stirling Prize. The firm’s America’s Cup Building, Velese Vents in Valencia, Spain was also shortlisted. Other recent
and current projects include the Des Moines Public Library in Iowa and the Master Plan for Berlin’s Museum Island.

The Artful Home Show
Nov 16th -18th
From November 16-18, New York´s Puck Building will be
the creative stumping ground for attendees to the Artful Home
Show. This year, 150 artisans will participate. Items on display
include furniture, decorative objects, wall art, jewelry,
glass art, and lighting. Hours are noon-8pm on Friday, November
16, 11am-7pm on Saturday November 17, and 11am-6pm on Sunday,
November 18. The Puck Building is located on the corner of
Houston and Lafayette Streets. Tickets are $12 in advance
or $20 at the door

New Museum of Contemporary Art Opening
235 Bowery (at Prince)

On December 1, New York will receive its first art museum
built from the ground up in downtown Manhattan. The New Museum
of Contemporary Art will open to the public its new seven-story,
60,000-square-foot building, designed by Japanese firm Sejima
+ Nishizawa/SANAA, at 235 Bowery Street.
The opening is just in time for the Museum's 30th anniversary,
and festivities include 30 hours of continuous free admission--sponsored
by Target--beginning at noon. A ribbon cutting ceremony will
be held Friday, November 30. The new building, also the Museum's
first freestanding dedicated space, is composed of a metal
mesh-clad, unevenly stacked tower of boxes.
