CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES
FACING U.K. ARCHITECTS IN THE U.S.
Fletcher Priest Architects
Middlesex House, 34/42 Cleveland Street, London W1T 4JE

Jonathan Wimpenny and Cynthia Fischer will speak about the opportunities available and the practical issues facing UK architects who wish to practice or participate on projects in the U.S. Their comments will be relevant to individuals and firms of all sizes and experience, whether you are starting out, a sole practitioner or a principal in a larger firm.

Jonathan Wimpenny is a sole practitioner who will speak of his experience as a U.K. architect who has transferred his practice to the U.S. He will discuss topics such as establishing a practice, licensing, business development, project team building, client relationships and expectations, and the roles of the AIA and RIBA–USA.

Cynthia Fischer will discuss issues of particular interest to foreign professionals, including State licensing requirements, visas, the multiplicity and diversity of State laws regulating entities providing professional services, putting together a U.S. team, client expectations, and concerns such as insurance, litigation, and basic tax issues from a U.S. point of view.

Jonathan B. Wimpenny, DipAA, RIBA, AIA, is a U.K. architect who transferred to the U.S. in 1986. He is licensed and practices in New York. He has been Chairman of the RIBA-USA New York Chapter since 1998 and serves on the International Committee of the AIA (New York Chapter).

Cynthia Fischer Esq. is an attorney practicing in New York with a specialization in counseling architects, both international firms and individuals, who are establishing a practice in the U.S. She is an allied member of the AIA, affiliate member of RIBA and Secretary of RIBA-USA. She also serves on the International Committee the AIA (New York Chapter).
