Masterpiece Returns to The Cloisters

The Annunciation Triptych (Mérode Triptych) has returned to The Cloisters after a three-month stay at the Städel Museum in Frankfurt. The triptych was a pivotal work of art in the Städel Museum's groundbreaking exhibition "The Master of Flémalle and Rogier van der Weyden" (November 21, 2008–March 1, 2009). Seen side-by-side with other paintings produced by the same artists in the 1420s, new light was shed on the creation of the masterpiece—evolving from a single panel to a winged altarpiece—and the hands involved.
