MEDIA ARCHITECTURE MYTHS AND DEFINITIONS LECTURE
Center for Architecture, La Guardia Place NYC
Digital media, either as signage, communication systems, 4D
CAD tool, interactive exhibits, digital wayfinding, real time
displays in corporate lobbies, or out of home advertising, is
increasingly becoming an integral component of architectural
design and the built environment. Technologies formerly used
just for 3D animations and for making movies are now helping
architectures dramatically shorten the distance and time between
ideation and realization. New technologies in tandem with the
integration of digital media, gives architects an unprecedented
range of expression, allowing them to create previously unimaginable
forms, sustainable designs, and dynamic responsive buildings
and environments that appear to be almost alive This lecture
will discuss this evolving field, show case studies, point out
how to avoid pitfalls, and learn about leveraging, existing
and new technologies, and possibilities for the future.
Thursday, February 12 to April 28 2010
This exhibition celebrates the catalytic power of the
Frank Lloyd Wright–designed museum’s spiraling
rotunda on the occasion of the building’s 50th Anniversary.
Since its opening in 1959, the building has served as an inspiration
for invention, challenging artists and architects to react
to its eccentric, organic design. The central void of the
rotunda has elicited many unique responses over the years,
which have been manifested in both site-specific solo shows
and memorable exhibition designs. With that history in mind,
the Guggenheim invited approximately 200 artists, architects,
and designers to imagine their dream interventions in the
space. The show will feature their renderings of these visionary
projects in a salon-style installation that will emphasize
the rich and diverse range of the proposals. This exhibition
is organized by Nancy Spector, Chief Curator, and David van
der Leer, Assistant Curator for Architecture and Design.

NYU Abu Dhabi joins a small number of complete universities
developed in the 21st century. The series will highlight both
campus design and the ideas about education these plans embody.
We are interested in the communal ideals the campuses stand
for, the challenges associated with community building in
the 21st century, and the intercultural agenda universities
are forging with their host cities and regions. The lectures
will take place at 19 Washington Square North, the gateway
to NYUAD in New York City.
CES LUs 1.5; HSW 1.5 Lectures are free and open to
the public, but seating is limited.
