2011 RIBA Norman Foster Traveling Competition – Call for Entries!
2011 RIBA Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship Call for Entries
deadline for submitting completed applications -- March 1, 2011

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is calling for entries for the 2011 RIBA Norman Foster Scholarship in partnership with Foster + Partners.
The scholarship offers a grant of £6,000 to one student of architecture to fund international travel and research on the topic and in the locations of the scholar's choosing.
Past RIBA Norman Foster Scholars traveled through the Americas, Europe, Africa, South East Asia, the Middle and the Far East, and Russia researching topics relating to the survival of cities and towns.
Students from 110 RIBA-accredited schools of architecture in the UK and abroad are invited to submit their proposals for research, which might include: learning from the past to inform the future; the future of society; the density of settlements; sustainability; the use of resources; the quality of urban life; and transport.
Norman Foster said: "As a student I won a prize that allowed me to spend a summer traveling through Europe and to study first hand buildings and cities that I knew only from the pages of books. It was a revelation - liberating and exhilarating in so many ways. Today it is my privilege to fund the RIBA Norman Foster Traveling Scholarship, which I hope will have a lasting legacy - offering the chance for discovery and the inspiration for exciting new work - for generations to come."

New York group launches $10,000 prize for green urban design
Pioneering design collective Terreform ONE has launched the second annual One Prize Award, asking contestants to come up with proposals for the NYC Blue Network and Clean Tech World Expo E3NYC in 2014.
Created to promote green design in cities, the One Prize aims to attract entries from a wide range of businesses and individuals, including architects, urban designers, planners, engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs, economists, artists and students. Last year's event attracting 202 teams from 20 different countries and five continents.
Every finalist put forward for the award has 12 months of exposure on the competition website and they will also get to present their designs at a ceremony; a web symposium will also feature the winning entries, matching the designers with leading experts in the relevant fields of market analysis, cleantech, real estate development, electric vehicles and infrastructure.
For the 2011 award, contestants have been challenged to find a way to expand waterborne transportation in the NYC Blue Network by linking the five boroughs with a number of green transit hubs. The plans have to incorporate: electric passenger ferries; electric shuttle buses; water taxis; electric car-share; and bike shares; as well as providing climate resilience, water-oriented educational and cultural activities, and in-water recreation.
Since 2006, Terreform ONE has been a leading innovator in green design and sustainable construction technology. Last year the One Prize Award was ranked the number four design competition in 2010 by Archinect, the leading architecture competitions network in the world.
Terreform ONE is also hoping to host the world's largest cleantech event in NYC in 2014
