The RIBA New York Chapter

To all New York & East Coast RIBA members & friends
The Royal lnstitute of British Architects, following a policy of extending its support to overseas members, has opened a new chapter in New York for all members on the East Coast of the United States. Founded by Jonathan B Wimpenny AlA RIBA, as Chairman, & Oswald Chung FRSA RIBA, as Honorary Secretary, this new Chapter follows the example of Tim Clark RIBA, who formed the first American Chapter in Los Angeles in 1995. Both chapters were esablished due to increasing demand by overseas members living in the United States who wanted an estabIished forum to promote professional status and to improve communications with London. The New York Chapter will he providing overseas members wth a new forum for the following objecive:
  • To increase contact with the London headquarters for all overseas RIBA members on the East Coast & assist members in fostering the exchange of ideas and experience.
  • To encourage contact & support the RIBA/USA, LA Chapter
  • To build a database of member's practices.
  • To engage all members in lobbying for registration, reciprocity, international professional qualifications & insurance.
  • To encourage Continuing Professional Developement in the United States and to collaborate wIth other institutions to strengthen the Institute and to ensure a high quality of pnofessionalism
  • To enure strong academic links wIth UK and lobby headquarters for full research facilities and library resources and encouraging the use of computer facilities for on-Iine searches and databaes.
  • To provide newsletter on professional matters, current events such as lectures, members' project profiles / exhibitions etc.
